A trade card for Sanford's Ginger medicine, Potter Drug and Chemical Company, Boston, ca. 1890s. The vivid color image shows a black girl with pigtails sitting on a watermelon and holding a slice in her left hand and another watermelon in her lap. In this latter piece of fruit is a black baby reaching for a bottle of the product held in the crook of the first child's right arm. Insects buzz around the bottle and the product name is above and below the scene, which exhibits a racist stereotype depiction of the black children. On the reverse is text promoting the product. With stains, soiling, browning and edge rubbing, with most wear on the reverse, the overall condition is good.
