Description

A trading card of the race horse Los Angeles, issued by Kinney Brothers, ca. 1890. There is a color image of the horse with a jockey on him and holding the reins. Text at the top right reads, "Kinney Bro's / High Class Cigarettes / Los Angeles, Winner of / The Travers Stakes 1888 / Rider—Isaac Murphy." Los Angeles was owned by Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin and kept at Baldwin's Rancho Santa Anita in the San Gabriel Valley. Murphy was a well-known black jockey of the era. On the reverse is information about card redemption for a large picture of any horse in the series as well as addresses for company offices. With some soiling and edge rubbing, the condition is good.
