Description

A dual photograph of a trench digging machine for the Los Angeles Aqueduct, ca. 1909. The close up shows the machine working in the trench area with a man seated aboard it and another behind it. Dark smoke belches from the engine and there are chains, pulleys and a conveyor as part of the machine. The trench, a pile of dirt and the ground level are also of note, as are other workers in the background. The photo was taken by a University of Southern California student who worked on the project in 1908 and 1909. With slight curvature and light soiling, the condition is good.
