A two-page Western Union telegram from Governor R. W. Waterman to Wellington C. Burnett, 13 September 188-. The item has the usual printed material about the telegraphic services offered by the company and the names of its general manager and president. The written message concerns the inability of the governor, who was in office from 1887-1891, to attend a function of the Mexican Veterans Assdociation of the Mexican-American War. Burnett, a native of Michigan, was a lieutenant in the war and later was city and county attorney in San Francisco. The item has a hole punched at the upper left corner of both pages and there are a few stains, some soiling and creasing, but the condition is good.
