Description
A snapshot photograph of a washed out road at the Los Angeles River, probably January 1914. The image is taken from one side of the river, the flow of which is a few feet below the bank. At the center across the river is a washed out road and a section of white wood fencing on the bank at an angle. A temporary barrier stands to block access to the washed out roadway. There are some bystanders and parked cars as people observe the damage. Power poles line one side of the roadway. A streetcar and what may be a power substation are in the distance at left. An ink inscription on the reverse reads, "Los Angeles river / Flood, Los Angeles / 1915," but the floods were in January 1914. With some edge browning, soiling and creases, the overall condition is good.
