Description

A wooden mantel clock, made by the Seth Thomas Clock Company, ca. 1890. The style is an adamantine column mantel clock: a black wooden case (a) with a curved top and black, green and cream adamantine veneer on the sides, four cream corinthian columns with copper bases and tops, two copper paw feet at the base of the front corners, a paper face with decorative gold leaf at the center, face is enclosed with a glass swinging door, clasp at the right, engraved decorative lines on the front. There is text printed on the clock face: Seth Thomas / Manufactured in the United States of America. The face has three keyholes: left keyhole winds mainspring, center keyhole adjust speed ("S" printed to the left, "F" printed to the right), right keyhole winds the strike mechanism for the chime. The clock has a removable back panel (b), made of wood and kept in place with a metal tab. The round, metal pendulum (c) is also removable. The clock is wound by a metal, two sided winding key (d). Removal of the back panel reveals the brass inner movements (made in the United States). The clock is in working order. The clock is overall in good condition. The paper face is discolored with evidence of abrasion on the bottom half. There are remnants of a paper label adhered to the back.
