Description

A young girl holding oranges in the front yard of a house, possibly at Coronado, California, 1905. The girl, dressed in a white dress, holds several green unripened fruits in both hands and stands or kneels in the front garden of a home. A street and portions of structures across the street are in the background. An ink inscription on the reverse reads, "Violet doing her best / to show off some / oranges which / were all on one twig / to shirt with [?]." It is assumed this was taken at one of two homes, perhaps one that burned in December 1904, associated with the final illness of Elizabeth Olive Mary Fraser, in whose funeral pamphlet the photo was tipped in. Aside from very light soiling, the condition is good.
