Description
ABEL STEARNS PROBATE CASE TESTIMONY, 27 SEPTEMBER 1871
Color: Black; White
A copy of a witness statement from Samuel B. Caswell and Charles H. Forbes in the probate case of the estate of Abel Stearns, 27 September 1871. The handwritten statement is on legal-sized ruled paper and is headed "Testimony on Probate of Will." The testimony covers both sides of two sheets and consists of statements that the two men were witnesses when Stearns issued his final will and testament on 12 March 1870. Each statement is followed by a standard certification of them by the deputy county clerk. F. P. F. Temple was an appraiser of the estate of Stearns, which may explain why it was passed down through the Temple family. Tears and losses at the top indicate the document was torn out of some holder and there are remnants of paper and adhesive at the top, as well. With horizontal quarter folds, at the ends of some of which are tears, surface soiling, a few stains, dented corners, and creases, make the artifact in fair condition.
