ADOBE CONSTRUCTION SITE, WORKMAN HOMESTEADEntry/Object ID

Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of an adobe-making site at the Workman Homestead, ca. 1924. The slightly out-of-focus image shows at left of center, a large adobe kiln, next to which is a construction worker emptying a wheelbarrow. To the right are two other workers standing in a cleared space. Nearby in the foreground are many adobes lying on one side drying. There may be many more adobes drying toward the background, as well. At far left there appears to be a building, but whether this is a home for the adobe makers or some other structure cannot be ascertained. In the foreground left and also near the kiln are piles of material, which cannot be made out. Also in the foreground, right of center, is a planted palm tree. Power poles at the left indicate that the site was west of the La Casa Nueva construction site. Stamped left of center on the reverse is "THE PHOTO S--- / 108 W. MAIN -- / ALHAMBRA, CAL." Some of the stamp has been blurred and smeared as to be unreadable. At the lower right corner is the number "6" stamped in ink, though there appears to be a smeared-out number next to this, as well. There are some creases and surface soiling on both sides, but the artifact is in good condition.
