ADOBE-MAKING SITE, WORKMAN HOMESTEADEntry/Object ID

Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of adobe-making sites on the Workman Homestead, ca. 1923. The photographer is on above ground-level overlooking the sites. At center are many rows of adobe bricks laying flat to dry. Behind them is an adobe kiln with more bricks stacked high in front of it. To the right is another long stack of bricks, arranged several pieces high. In the foreground is a pit with several tools, perhaps picks and shovels, resting against the edge on the left, while there appears to be a dirt mound at the right. There are a variety of trees around the site, including an evergreen and palm in the immediate foreground and, probably, walnut trees around the site. In the background, there seems to be a section of crops, backed by a large tree or several trees. In the distance are part of the Puente Hills, indicating that this site is to the south of the La Casa Nueva construction site, similar to .676, but in a different location than .675. The artifact was torn at the far right and mounted on a paper backing with four clear plastic mounting corners adhered to the backing. Other than the tear, there appears to be little wear or damage and the object is in fair condition.
