Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of an adobe-making area at the Workman Homestead, ca. 1922. Four, possibly five, large adobe kilns are across the center of the image from left to right. Each have short stacks of brick piled in front of them. Near some of the kilns are piles of kindling wood and there is another stack of wood in the lower left foreground--these probably are branches and limbs from the walnut trees that are planted around the site, such as those visible in the photograph. A small palm tree is in the foreground, right of center. A glimpse of a mountain between the far right kilns seems to indicate that the site is on the west side of the La Casa Nueva construction site and that the photographer was looking to the northwest. On the reverse the word "VELOX" is imprinted onto the paper and the number "29" is stamped at the lower right corner. Aside from a fingerprint smudge at the upper left of the reverse, the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
