Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of adobe-making sites on the Workman Homestead, ca. 1924. The photographer stood near one end of a large pit, probably two to three feet deep. Inside this pit, at the far left, are a few adobe bricks standing on end and drying. Behind this, there seems to be another pit, again at left, with a worker standing in it. At center, behind the foreground pit and to the right of the second pit is a worker crouching near a group of adobes lying flat in the dirt. From the right toward the center are three large adobe kilns used to dry the bricks. More adobes are sitting next to each of these kilns. The site is located amidst a grove of trees, assumed to be walnuts, which provided branches for fuel in the kilns. The image is somewhat washed out, especially at the left, indicating an exposure problem. Aside from non-intrusive darkening on edges, there appear to be no areas of wear or damage and the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
