Description

AERIAL PHOTOGRAPH OF HACIENDA HEIGHTS, MARCH 16, 1978 Color: Black; White A black and white reproduction photograph of an aerial view of Hacienda Heights, 16 March 1978. The Pomona Freeway largely bisects the image, before curving slightly toward the north to get around the north end of the western side of the Puente Hills. On one side, the dominant landscape is of the large warehouses and industrial plants in the City of Industry, though the former Workman Homestead, then under restoration and three years away from opening as the Homestead Museum, is just above the center and the faint outlines of the 92-acre ranch is still visible as is a small section of the original entrance to the west, with trees bordering it, before it stops when development realigned Don Julian Rd. to the south and an industrial plant was built near the Homestead. Also encroached upon but still visible is the John Rowland ranch, slightly southeast of the Homestead. Much of Hacienda Heights has been built upon, with new development in the lower right corner toward Puente Hills and along Colima Rd. Some of the gaps in the City of Industry section have also been filled in with construction. San Jose Creek, as opposed to the earlier views, was long filled in as a concrete floor control channel. On one side of the front is the inscription "3-16-78" and then "78049 10." On the center of the reverse is a stamp in black ink for American Aerial Surveys, Inc. with its address. With little evidence of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
