AERIAL PHOTOGRAPH OF NORTH WHITTIER HEIGHTS, SEPTEMBER 8, 1935
Color: Black; White
A black and white reproduction photograph of an aerial view of North Whittier Heights, now Hacienda Heights, 8 September 1935. The aircraft was over the southern section of the area near the Puente Hills when it took this image. At the top right is the Workman Homestead, including 92 acres, planted with walnut trees surrounding the historic area at the center of the parcel. Access roads from Valley Blvd to the north out of the image and Turnbull Canyon Rd. to the west are easily discernible. Those areas to the south that became City of Industry and Hacienda Heights are sections of farm land and avocado or citrus groves. Hacienda Blvd., then called Hudson Rd. extends south from today's Gale Ave., but may not have continued north toward Puente. Part of the John Rowland ranch is toward the upper right with a grove next to it. Undeveloped and uncultivated sections of the Puente Hills are smooth areas at the bottom and upper left corner, though at left are those parts of the hills that were in use. San Jose Creek's meandering natural course is still in evidence. At the lower left is a box with the number "C3668-164." On the center of the reverse is a stamp for Teledyne Geotronics with the image number, approximate scale, and date the image was taken. With little evidence of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition.
