AERIAL VIEW OF DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, 1925Entry/Object ID
2004.258.1.5Description
Color: Black; White
An aerial photograph of downtown Los Angeles, May 17, 1925. The view, taken from a balloon, shows the section from the University Club area near 6th and Figueroa looking south. Several major north-south arteries head toward the top of the image, while east-west roads are less visible. For the most part, buildings in view, especially in the foreground and toward the upper two-thirds are commercial, with a few displaying banners, such as the Union Oil Building at the lower left. There are many cars in the streets and parked in lots scattered here and there. In the distance are residential areas, the University of Southern California, and the Coliseum, but they are largely shrouded in haze. At the lower left corner is the photography company name, location, and photo number. On the reverse are several pencil and ink inscriptions providing information about the view and location. A stamp from the photography company is at the center. With corner rubbing, soiling, yellowing, and some handling stains, the artifact is in good overall condition.
