AERIAL VIEW OF THE HOMESTEAD FROM THE WEST, ca. 1940
Color: Black; White
A black and white reproduction photograph of an aerial view of the Workman Homestead by Spence Air Photos, ca. 1940. Taken from the west and looking southeast, the image shows La Casa Nueva toward the bottom and the Workman House above and to the left. Further above the Workman House is the tennis court and swimming pool, while to its right are the Water Tower, historic winery buildings and other outbuildings. At the far right are barns and stables, a pump house and servants' quarters. Toward the upper left is El Campo Santo cemetery. In the fields surrounding the ranch buildings are walnut trees, while at the upper right corner is San Jose Creek. Access roads from Valley Blvd, at left, and Turnbull Canyon, at the lower right, and the driveways around the Workman House and La Casa Nueva are notable and there are a few automobiles parked near the Water Tower and at the front of La Casa Nueva. At the lower right is the mark for Spence Air Photos. At the top are many creases, which have caused chipping on the photograph's surface and there is some surface soiling on the reverse, so the artifact is in fair condition.
