Description

Color: Black; White A black and white aerial photograph of the Homestead site from the northeast before La Casa Nueva construction, ca. 1921. The site is seen at center with a road coming in from the north to the Workman House and water tower which are enclosed in a semicircular area. Only the four-gabled roof of the home, which is in an "h" shape, can be seen as well as a portion of the east wall. To the right is a courtyard area with trees and bushes followed by the paviliion roof and east side of the water tower; to the east is the reservoir and tennis court. Several other structures are across from the water tower including William Workman's winery used by the Temple family as a cafeteria and auditorium. Evergreen Lane crosses between the water tower and winery extending up to the northwest and down to the southeast. On the southeast end of the road is the heartshaped planter followed by the square-shaped plot El Campo Santo Cemetery; the mausoleum is at the top with the center plot in the back. Surrounding the site are agricultural fields and walnut trees seen to the south, followed by the winding San Jose Creek, and train tracks running west to east. A road is across the top from north to south, with another road starting to the south of Evergreen Lane and going west; at this junction are two homes with pitched roofs. Written in pen across the back top left is, "Aerial view of the Workman and Temple homes c. 1930 [sic.] Photo taken by/ Spence Air Photos./ Source - Workman and Temple Homestead." There are three photographs with the same number and a a negative in 99.6.10.223, and the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
