Description

AGNES TEMPLE AND FRIENDS, SAN GABRIEL MISSION SESQUICENTENNIAL, JULY 1921 Color: Black; white A reproduction photograph of Agnes Temple and friends Clara and Laura Lugo; Celia and Lita Olivares; and Carolina, Clara, and Elvira Rowland at the Mission San Gabriel for that institution's sesquicentennial, July 1921. The group is on a lawn next to the mission church, seen at upper right, and next to apalm tree. At background left is a gate. Four of the girls are seated and the other four stand. All have on light-colored dresses, except for Clara Rowland and Agnes Temple, who wear dark-colored dresses. Agnes' dress has white trim and she holds a large dark-colored hat. Thomas W. Temple II labeled the photograph on the front below the image "San Gabriel Mission Pageant of 1921, participants in front of Mission." There was a drama presented and the girls were all involved. On the reverse, Thomas wrote: "L to R / Standing: Celia Olivares, Clara Lugo, / Inez Temple, Elvira Rowland / Sitting: Clarita Rowland, Laura Lugo, / Lita Olivares & Carolina Rowland. / July 0f 1921." At the bottom right he wrote: "TWT2." There is little indication of wear or damage, except for a crease or two, so the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
