Description

AGNES TEMPLE AND RALPH TALLY IN FRONT OF A GAS STATION Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of Agnes Temple and Ralph Tally at a service station, ca. 1940s. Temple stands at the center and wears a wide-brim hat and a short-sleeve dress. She holds a cigarette between her left fingers and holds the left hand of Tally with her right. Tally is at the left and wears a shirt with rolled-up sleeves, a belt, riding trousers, and knee-high boots. His hair is slicked back and he faces to the left, though his face is out of view. A service station is in the back with a pitched roof, and advertisements on the side. Many of the advertisements are blocked by Temple and Tally though at the top and far right are signs with the name, "ZEROLENE OIL." Two gas pumps are under the station roof at the far right. The photograph was housed in Temple's album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With water damage and some stains at the top and at the back, the artifact is in overall fair condition. Number-Units: 1
