AGNES TEMPLE IN A SHIPBOARD SWIMMING POOLEntry/Object ID
96.7.67.2Description
Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of Agnes Temple in a shipboard swimming pool, ca. 1926. Agnes is in the water at the right facing the camera and wears a hair cap and a dark-colored suit. Two men, possibly Agness' younger brothers are next to her facing away from the camera. A ship crew member, wearing his white uniform and cap, leans on a cylindrical item, perhaps specifically to support the pool. Some ropes or cables are attached to the cylinder from the canvas or some other flexible material that is the container for the pool and are wrapped around the cylinder. There are two other cylinders that are vertical to the camera and also have ropes or cables wound around them and attached to the pool supports. One side of the ship is at right and other apparatus, including a set of cables at the upper left, are partially in the image. On the reverse top is an inscription in blue ink: "See Agnes, and I think Bert has his back turned to the camera." It is unclear, however, if Edgar Temple is indeed in the image. The date is estimated and it is guessed that the trip was one taken to the East Coast in the summer of 1926, in which the family sailed most of the way. With both upper corners dogeared, especially the left, and some stains on the left side of the reverse, the object is in fair condition.
