An aerial view of Los Angeles City Hall and the surrounding area, by A. C. Gates, 12 September 1929. The imposing city hall dominates the scene, but there are also the old sandstone courthouse and Hall of Records at the left, and a number of commercial structures in this older downtown area. At the upper part of the photo is the Fort Moore Hill area, including the old Los Angeles High School building, the site of the original city cemetery and the area beyond toward Angelino Heights and Silver Lake. Gates' stamp is on the reverse with the negative number and date and there are many inscriptions. With some soiling, creases, and edge rubbing, the overall condition is good., by A. C.
