Description

An article, "Los Angeles," from The Ladies' Repository, 1873. The two-column, four-page piece provides a general description of the city by the unnamed author, who appears to have been a resident, and has separate sections on "The Catholic Property;" "The Zanjas;" "Trees;" "Pueblo de Los Angeles;" and "Old Pueblo." In these last two areas, negative views of Spanish-speaking residents are expressed. There are two prints of view labeled "Puebelo de Los Angeles—From The East" and from the west, but these are ca. 1850 images of a town in Mexico (see examples of this elsewhere in the Homestead collection.) As disbound, with minor soiling, browning and edge rubbing, the condition is good.
