An oil well fire, Signal Hill Field, ca. 1925. Taken from a nearby road, the image shows the burning well in the distance behind other well sites and heavy plumes of smoke rise into the sky. The derrick that appears directly in front of the burning well has a sign on it that reads "BEMCO NO. 1" An ink inscription on the reverse reads, "Explosion and Fire of Oil / Well on Signal Hill Field." With warping to the lower left corner, some stains and soiling, the overall condition is fair.
