Description

AN UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN HOLDING A BOTTLE OF WINE IN A BABY CARRIAGE Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of an unidetified woman holding a bottole of wine in a baby carriage, ca. 1930s. The woman sits in a wicker baby carriage which is turned to the right. Her dark hair is pulled back in a bun. She wears round earrings, a white short-sleeved dress, hose, and black heels. The long handle of the carriage is between the woman's legs. On her lap is a rag doll. She holds a wine bottle to her lips with both hands. The bottle's shape and label suggest that the wine was German. The area around the woman is dirt and a patch of grass is at the left. At the right is a dirt driveway. Trees flank the driveway in the background. Also in the background is a paved street, a fence, palm trees, and part of a two-story house. A blue stamp for Anderson Photo Service which was in El Monte is on the back, along with the number "4." The image was housed in Agnes Temple's photo album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With only a slight yellowing of the paper, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
