Description

AN UNKNOWN WOMAN WITH THOMAS TEMPLE'S CAT IN LA CASA NUEVA'S COURTYARD Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of an unknown woman with Thomas Temple's cat in the courtyard of La Casa Nueva, ca. 1920s. The woman sits at the center on the edge of the fountain. She wears earrings, a sleeveless top, and a wool skirt. She holds an object up in the left hand and looks down at the cat as she pets its right side with her right. The cat walks on the edge of the fountain and it has white fur above and around the nose, chest, and paws. The rest of its fur is dark. The two round stones of the fountain's center-piece are at the far left. On the second stone are several mano-like stones, and below this is water. At the bottom of the right is the stone walk which is also across the back under the home's west patio. At the left is the screen door to the guest bathroom, at the center is a round pillar, and at the right is a potted fern and the screen door to the guest bedroom. Across the top is the tile awning. At the center of the back is a stamp that reads, "ANDERSON / Photo Service / EL MONTE," and over this is the word, "VELOX." At the top right corner is the number, "31." The photograph was housed in Agnes Temple's album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With stains along the top and yellowing of the paper, the artifact is in fair condition. Number-Units: 1
