Description

REPORTS, "ANALYTICAL REPORT UPON INDIAN DIALECTS SPOKEN IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, NEVADA, AND ON THE LOWER COLORADO RIVER, &c, &c . . .," by Albert S. Gatschet (Washington: Government Printing Office,) 1876. The item, an appendix from the "Annual Report of the Chief of Engineers for 1876" of the U. S. Geographical Surveys West of the 100th Meridian, resulted from an 1875 visit by Dr. Oscar Loew with the Wheeler Expedition and focused on three groups: the Santa Barbara family, the Shoshone family, and the Yuma family of dialects inhabiting areas from Santa Barbara to the high desert region of the Mojave and to southeastern California. The document has some edge wear, creases, and light browning, but is in good condition.
