Description

A panoramic photograph, "Annual Picnic Simon Levi Co. Under Auspices S.L.C. Club," Pasadena, by Weaver, 1925. The image shows a large group posed in several rows seated and standing at Brookside Park near the Rose Bowl at the Arroyo Seco, including guests comprising executives of Best Foods, Inc., Cheek-Neal Coffee Co., and the California Packing Co. Some of the persons are members of the Los Angeles High School band and are in uniform at the far right and back and a band bass drum is at the center. At left is a small Spanish Colonial Revival park building, in the background is the parking lot filled with cars, and in the distance are the hills of the Linda Vista neighborhood. Simon Levi emigrated from Bohemia and had a wholesale grocery business in San Diego with a branch started in 1903 at Los Angeles, this latter of which was run aftre Levi's death in 1918 by his son-in-law Jay B. Jacobs. With pin holes at the edges, some fading, a major crease with tape on it at the left one-third or so and soiling, and some fading, the overall condition is good.
