Description

ANNUAL PUBLICATION OF THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, VOLUME 3, NUMBER 1, 1893 Color: Green; White "Annual Publication of the Historical Society of Southern California, Volume 3, Number 1, 1893," printed by Noble & McMillan, 1893. The green clothbound volume with speckled paper has gold printing on the spine with the organization name and publication year. The complete publication is bound inside, including the original wrappers. At the beginning is the list of officers for the Society for 1893 and 1894, followed by the inaugural address of the president. Following are eleven articles on early gold finds in the region, old land marks, the Los Angeles River, the destruction of Catholic missions on the Colorado River, the Pala Mission, the American conquest of Los Angeles in September 1846, four articles on reminiscences of Los Angeles from the 1850s to 1890, and on Pasadena. The last page consists of short reports by the secretary and curator. The total number of pages is 87. On the inside front cover is the ex-libris label of a former owner. Although the volume and number are not indicated in the item, the 1896 publication identified those of 1893-1896 as volume 3. Because of the tight binding and relative minor edge wear to the covers, the object is in good condition.
