Description

AUDEL'S CARPENTERS AND BUILDERS GUIDE, VOLUME 2 Color: Black "Audel's Carpenters and Builders Guide, Volume Two," (New York: Theo. Audel & Co., 1924,) 435 pp. This is the second of four volumes on general building and carpentry work. The softcover book has a faux leather look with the front cover having a dentil-like border, within which, at the top, is the title embossed into the material. At the bottom is an image of a setting sun with a hammer superimposed over it. On the spine, in gold lettering, is the title, volume number, and list of main topics. Toward the bottom is an image of a hammer and there is a single horizontal line at the top and two of these lines at the bottom. One of the flysheets has a quotation on hand labor from John Ruskin with an illustration of beam strengths on the other side. Following is the title page. A foreword outlines the purpose of the guides. An "Outline of Chapters" includes chapters on mathematics for carpenters; surveying; timber strength; practical drawing; reading of plans; architectural drawing; specifications; estimating; and building suggestions. Pagination continues from the first volume and continues into the third. The index is following the outline and at the beginning before the text. Many illustrations and charts, including drawings of tools, correct use of them, and information on applying them, accompany the text. At the back are several pages of advertisement for books related to mechanics, engineers and electricians with an order form at the end. There are some slight tears on the inside of the covers and dented cover corners, but the artifact is in good condition.
