Description

AUDEL'S CARPENTERS AND BUILDERS GUIDE, VOLUME 4 Color: Black "Audel's Carpenters and Builders Guide, Volume Four," (New York: Theo. Audel & Co., 1924,) 457 pp. This is the last of four volumes on general building and carpentry work. The softcover book has a faux leather look with the front cover having a dentil-like border, within which, at the top, is the title embossed into the material. At the bottom is an image of a setting sun with a hammer superimposed over it. On the spine, in gold lettering, is the title, volume number, list of main topics, including tools, steel squares, saw filing, joinery, and furniture. Toward the bottom is an image of a hammer and there is a single horizontal line at the top and two of these lines at the bottom. One of the flysheets has a quotation on hand labor from John Ruskin with an illustration of stair construction on the other side. Following is the title page. A foreword outlines the purpose of the guides. An "Outline of Chapters" includes chapters on roofing; cornice work; mitre work; doors; windows; sheathing and siding; stairs; flooring; walls and ceiligs; mill work; paint; and first aid. Pagination continues from the third volume and ends at page 1546. The index is following the outline and at the beginning before the text. Many illustrations and charts, including drawings of tools, correct use of them, and information on applying them, accompany the text. At the back are advertisements for books for mechanics, engineers and electricians. There are some creases and small stains on the inside of the covers and creases on the spine, but the artifact is in good condition.
