Description

Rug: Large Bakhtiari Persian rug produced in the central part of Iran for the western market. The rug is made of 100% wool pile on a cotton foundation and is hand-knotted overall. The background colors of the rug are red and blue with multiple color floral and cloud-band designs overall. Large yellow medallion at center. The designs used in this rug were taken from tile patterns found in palaces in Isfahan (capital of Persia during the 16th century). Major border has traditional Persian motifs picked up from Persian paradise (gardens) imagery. Minor border has cloud-band designs. 2 1/2" fringe. Rug was used in a room with high humidity for many years. Has been professionally cleaned. Overall physical condition and appearance is good.
