Description
BALDWIN AND TEMPLE LEASES AT MONTEBELLO OIL FIELDS, 1917
Color: Black; White
A photograph of oil wells at the Baldwin and Temple leases, Montebello oil fields, 1917. The image is a closeup of a photo published in the "Mining and Oil Bulletin" issue from August. Four oil wells, with wooden derricks, are numbered from the left toward the center, with the first three being Baldwin wells 2, 1, and 3, and the fourth being Temple well 1. It was noted that the latter was in production since June 12. At the lower center and right are a series of small one-story buildings, presumably housing and/or offices and warehouses for oil company operations. The view is looking east from the Montebello Hills with the Puente Hills in the background. As a newly produced image, the artifact is in mint condition.
