A photograph of Baldwin oil well 1 at the Montebello oil fields, 1917. The image is a closeup of a photo published in the "Mining and Oil Bulletin" issue from August. The well is shown with a wooden derrick, aluminum or tin shed for the mechanics and power generation, a wagon with a cylindrical tank, and two other wagons, one of which appears to have steel pipe on it. In the background are other areas of the Montebello Hills. The well was brought into production on February 28, 1917, as the first of the wells at the field, and was soon followed in June by the first Temple well nearby. As a newly produced image, the artifact is in mint condition.
