Description

BATCHELDER TILE, SQUARE PIECE WITH YELLOW AND BLACK SQUARE DESIGN Color: Yellow, black A square tile piece, manufactured by the Batchelder company, Los Angeles, ca. 1920s. The piece is glazed with yellow and black colors and features a design of four yellow square pieces in between, and, at the center, a square flower-like design in yellow and blue colors. The bottom was covered with a burlap-like material, obviously as a buffer for installation. Part of this material was revealed to show a portion of the maker's imprint and more material was removed by museum staff to number the object. In good condition, the tile shows no significant indications of wear or damage.
