2009.203.1.1Description
"Beach at Santa Monica, Looking South," by Frank L. Park, ca. 1890s. The view shows the ocean at right, the sandy beach at left and a short pier, perhaps a remnant of one, and some structures along the shoreline, most notably the Arcadia Hotel. Down the shoreline is another pier and, further in the distance, the Palos Verdes peninsula. The beach is largely deserted, suggesting a fall or winter setting. At the lower edge is the caption, with the ID number, missing, and Park's name. Park's stamp is also on the reverse, as is an ink inscription reading "California / Aunt Rhetta gave this to me." With small pieces missing at the corners, stains and soiling and extensive rubbing and adhesive on the reverse of the mount, the condition is fair.
