Color: Gray, green, red, white
A trade catalog on Bear Brand Portland Cement, issued by the Golden State Portland Cement Company, Los Angeles, ca. 1917. The cover is a gray marbled paper with the word "RESULTS" in large green block letters at the center and a stylized floral design beneath it, in which is a red colored seal for the cement brand. The 53-page catalog has text discussing "The Development of Portland Cement," including its history; "The Use of Cement," including discussion of aggregates; proportioning; mixing; placing; use of forms and the building of sidewalks. Specifications from testing of the properties of portland cement are provided with a facsimile of a letter to the company that did the testing, dated 9 February 1917 (hence the estimated publication date.) Many photographs of buildings and other projects in which Bear Brand cement was used are in the work, from Los Angeles, Orange, Imperial, and San Bernardino counties. With dented corners; some cover creases; crayon markings on several pages; and a water stain at the lower left of the front cover and first few pages, the catalog is in fair condition.Lexicon
