"Beer: How They Make It, How You Make It" by the Schultheiss Patzenhofer Brewery (Berlin: Hanewacker & Co., 1929), 30 pp. The softcover pamphlet (a) has a dustcover (b) with what loooks like a pencil-drawn background in brown, yellow and red; a beer mug at the lower right; the word "BEER" in large black letters at the center; and the words "TIPS FROM WORLD'S GREATEST BREWERY" at the bottom. Contents of the pamphlet include instructions on how to make 10 gallons of beer, including the various processes of malting, mashing, fermentation and storage; increasing the alcohol content; quick brewing techniques; a technical dictionary; what to do with accidents in the brewing process; and other information. At the end is an application blank to send to the brewery for more information. There are many black and white photographs of the brewery and the process of making beer there. On the inside front cover in ink are the following inscriptions: "Passed on by / LCP [Lawrence Clark Powell?] / Prosit!" and "Here's how! N-w Y-rs Gr-ts! Herb." There is also an ex-libris label from the library of Los Angeles printer and publisher Ward Ritchie. Aside from a few creases and slight wear on the cover and dented corners on the pamphlet, the artifact is in good condition.
