Description

"BEETHOVEN SONATAS FOR PIANOFORTE SOLO, VOLUME II" Color: Gold; Green "Beethoven Sonatas for Pianoforte Solo, Volume II," revised and fingered by Dr. Hans von Bulow and Dr. Sigmund Lebert, translated by Dr. Theodore Baker and with a biographical sketch by Dr. Thomas Baker, published by G. Schirmer, Inc., 1894. The green hardcover book has an ornate floral design within a square bordered box at the center of the front cover and the title and series, the Library of Musical Classics, along with the publisher's name and headquarters at the right. Because the volume is the second in the series, the pagination begins at 342, after the title page and the first bar of the 17 selections in volume one and the 15 in this volume are presented side-by-side subsequent to the title page. The selections are presented in full and contain extensive footnotes. There are fairly frequent penciled inscriptions and markings on the selections by a former owner. At the frontispiece is an ink inscription: "To: Mr. Benn / From Mrs. W. F. Golightly / With best wishes For a Happy Christmas / 1928." In good condition, the object has abrasions on the the spine ends and cover corners; dents on the cover corners; foxing on the flysheets; scratches on the back cover; and a few stains on the front cover and page edges.
