Description

Color: Color A color photograph of the Belt family marker, Stockton Rural Cemetery, ca. 1900. The dark granite marker rests upon a rough granite base and has a cross with the Greek initials "I. H. S." for Christ on it. Floral designs are next to the lower part of the cross, under which are inscriptions as follows: "GEORGE GORDON BELT / SEPT. 25, 1825 - JUNE 3, 1869 / NATIVE OF MARYLAND / GEORGE GORDON BELT JR. / JAN. 26, 1862 - APR. 20, 1893 / NATIVE OF CAL. / BEBIANA A. BELT / DEC. 2, 1829 / NATIVE OF CHILI." The name "BELT" is inscribed on the upper part of the base. Other than grass around the stone, and a hedge, behind which are other tombsones, in the background, there are no other identifying features. See items .7 and .8 for related images. It is probable that Mrs. Belt's first name was Viviana, but spelled here phonetically. The image is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
