Description

Color: Blue; Orange; White Bild-A-Word card game, ca. 1929, consisting of the box top and bottom (a-b); a product brochure (c); a rules booklet (d); a game dictionary (e); a deck of 36 cards in a box (f); and 133 point cards (g). The box lid is blue, orange and white and has an image within a triangle of a family of four playing the game. Above is the game title and the company's name and place of business. Below are various inscriptions about the game. There are comments about the game and its title on the side panels, as well. The box bottom is plain and without ornamentation. The product brochure is pink, red, blue and white and has the faces of nine persons from children to adults to seniors with the game title at the top. A flap on the inside gives information about the game and when the flap is lifted, an inner area provides more information and has advertisements for two other Bild-A-Word games. The rules booklet is an off-white color and has an Art Deco-like design, while inside are the rules for five variations of the game, as well as testimonials to the game's educational value. In an orange and blue cover, the dictionary, copyrighted in 1922, is 188 pp. and includes rules on spelling and grammar, a list of American euphemisms, a list of states' names and their meanings; nicknames of famous persons and other appendices. The card deck is housed in a box much like the front cover and has cards with letters on them, as well as two "Blockade" cards. There are some surface stains, small tears and creases, but the artifact is in good condition.
