"Bird Houses and Garden Accessories," a catalog issued by Roderick Payne Inc., 1920s. The softcover item has the title at the top of the front, under which is a branch with a sign hanging from it. Within the sign is the company name, motto "The Bird House Man," and location of the main office. Birds rest on the top of the sign and on the tree branch. At the lower left is an image of a steeply-roofed house, below which is another motto, "Buy A Bird House and 'Rent it for a Song.'" The inside front cover contains the creed of the owner of the company and, at the lower left, a cartoon. The first page is a statement about the duty to save song birds by providing them protective housing. Further information is provided on the company's bird houses; the kind to buy; the feeding of birds; and descriptions of such birds as the purple martin; the bluebird; the wren; chickadees; phoebes; the cardinal; the robin; and the brown thrasher. Listings of products include a description, dimensions, weight, and price and most have drawings or photos accompanying them. There are also sundials; bird baths; gazing globes; plant pots; jars; pedestals; and plants offered. The inside back cover has terms and more information on services provided. Though there are a few creases, including a large one at the lower center of the front, the artifact shows little sign of wear and damage and is in good condition.Lexicon
