The 323-page hardcover book with dustjacket (see item .2) has a red cloth cover with title, author's last name, and university logo in gold lettering on the spine. The work consists of nine chapters concerning a campus chapel; military education; the university commons, in two parts; hospital surgeons in 1775 at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War; the law school, which was attended by William W. Temple from 1872-74 and Thomas W. Temple from 1926-29; barracks on the common from 1775-1918; noted "characters" in the school's history; and C. C. Langdell, a professor at the law school when William Temple attended in the 1870s. There are some fifty illustrations, most photographs. An ex-libris label of a former owner is on the inside front cover.
