Description

Booklet, El Pueblo: Los Angeles Before the Railroads, 1928. The booklet discusses Los Angeles history from the era of Spanish exploration to the completion of the Southern Pacific line which connected the city to the Transcontinental Railroad. The booklet, which was written by the Publicity Department of the Equitable Branch of the Security Trust and Savings Bank of Los Angeles, also contains information regarding the bank. While other copies of the El Pueblo booklet are part of the HM Collection (Object IDs: 2002.150.1.1 and 2021.3.2.185), this is the only copy which was acquired with a corresponding mailing envelope (b). An inscription on the envelope reads, "Thomas Workman Temple, Esq / 48 Brattle Street / Cambridge, Mass." Thomas W. Temple II likely received this booklet while he was attending Harvard University. With moderate discoloration, moderate and minor tears, minor creases, and minor flaking, the envelope is in poor condition overall. With minor discoloration, minor creases, and minor edge rubbing, the booklet is in good condition overall.
