Description

Color: Black, red, white "Boxing Rules, Dempsey-Carpentier Fight", compliments of Truly Warner, ca. 1920s. The cover has a black background with two lines of different width in red and an image of a bird in red with black squares on its body and a white beak. At the top is the title with, in the center in a white box, the name of Truly Warner, a hat retailer. The fifteen-page document gives the obsolete Marquis of Queensbury rules, followed by the modern rules, delineating regulations for: equipment, including the ring, gloves, and scales, among others; officials, being the referee, timekeeper, director of bouts, announcer, and physician; contestant; and the contest. At the back are lists of champions for the world; America; Britain; and France. The back cover has similar red lines to the front with various sized red squares. A white box at the center reads: "50,000 / Truly Warners / will see the big show./ Fight Fans / always pick / a winner" and the retailer's logo is at the bottom of the box. In good condition, the pamphlet has a creased lower right front corner; edge abrasions; and light discoloration.
