Description

A press photo of the Boy Scouts of Los Angeles's contribution to Jackie Coogan's fundraising drive, 9 July 1924. The Boy Scouts are parading in uniform with a band on a wide paved road, between rows of power line poles. To the right is a train with a truck backed into one of the cars, unloading boxes and sacks of food. There is a photographer towards the middle with his camera on a tripod. Several men stand on the side. The truck has a banner, "California's Contribution to the Near East Relief / Modern Childrens Crusade to Help Fill / Jackie Coogan's Million Dollar Food Ship." The Boy Scouts had raised enough to fill two train cars. The efforts were intended to benefit Armenians, Greeks and others in affected by World War I. The image is in good condition with a minor tear at the top right, minor warping and discoloration.
