Description

Color: Gold A pin from Elks Lodge 99, BPOE, Los Angeles, 1909. The item is in two parts, the lower consisting of a California poppy in relief and, attached to this latter by a round link is a bronze shield with the fastener on the reverse, consisting of the California grizzly bear, with the number 99 embossed upon it, the words "LOS ANGELES 1909" on a banner, and an image of an Elk with a star above it, floral patterns around it, and the initials B. P. on one side and O. E. on the other. On the reverse of both is the name of the manufacturer, Charles M. Robbins of Attleboro, Massachusetts, etched into the metal. Walter P. Temple was later a member of the Elks and hosted regional meetings at the Homestead in the early 1920s. With major tarnishing to the bronze shield and some surface soiling and scratching on both sections, the general condition is good.
