Description

Color: Gold A pin from Elks Lodge 99, BPOE, Los Angeles, 1921. The item is in two parts, the lower consisting of a circular medallion with a grizzly bear, an elk's head, the letters "BPOE" and the number "99" with what appears to be a cornucopia as a border design. The upper part affixed to the former by two chains attached to the elk's antlers is of the Mission San Gabriel south facade, a banner with "LOS ANGELES" on it, and a clock with the hands set at 11:00 and the year 1921 at the bottom. On the reverse of the top piece is the name of the manufacturer, S. D. Childs and Co. of Chicago, etched into the metal. Walter P. Temple was a member of the Elks and hosted regional meetings at the Homestead in the early 1920s, during which he awarded a trophy in his name to the top lodge in the Los Angeles area. With grime and dust, tarnishing, and tarnishing and discoloration, the general condition is good.
