Description

Color: Brown; Gold "Brickwork in Italy," edited by G. C. Mars (Chicago: American Face Brick Association, 1925), 298 pp. A hardcover book, without a dustjacket, in brown color with no ornamentation on the covers, except for the book title and publisher's name in gold lettering on the spine, and an inscription in white on the spine bottom reading "TD 106." The work is a history of the building material from ancient Rome, through the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque era, and more recent periods. Subthemes include manufacturing techniques; sizing; the building of walls, arches, vaults, and cupolas; decorative uses; and preeminent examples in public buildings, private residences, and churches, primarily. There are a great many black and white photographs of structural examples, along with some drawings and architectural renderings. At the center and frontispiece are color drawings. While the pages are generally in good condition, the binding is loose and there is fairly significant wear and surface soiling to the covers, so that the artifact is in fair overall condition.
