BROADCLOTHS ENGLISH TWO-PLY FABRIC SAMPLE BOOK
Color: Black; White
A sample book of coated cotton fabrics issued by John Wilson Textiles, New York, 1927. The book has a paper cover, on the front of which is a title of "Broadcloths / English Two-Ply." Under this is a motto: "The Lustre / is Permanent." At the bottom is "By the Piece / From / John Wilson Textiles / 46 West Broadway / New York City." All text is in an Old English-style font, except for the company name and location and there is a thin black line border around the edges. On the reverse between two short black horizontal lines is a notation that the broadcloths in the sample could be used for dresses, uniforms, and draperies, as well as for shirts and pajamas. On both inside panels are three samples of the material with text at the top identifying them as of "Silk Finish" and that sections were 36 inches wide. Four of the six samples are stamped with the style names "PREMIER," "DEUXIEME," AND "LANCASHIRE." Those at the right are in blue, tan, and gray colors while those at the left are variations of white. At the bottom of the left panel is "Two-Ply Cloths" and at the bottom of the right is a note that colors are guaranteed against damaging elements, such as sun, perspiration, alkali and chlorine, as well as washing. At the top of the front cover is a pencil inscription reading "Ward 1927," while other notations are on the inside left panel and include a price of 70 cents for colors. While the fabrics are in good condition, the cover has many creases and surface stains and so the artifact is in fair overall condition.Lexicon
