Description

Color: Black; White A photograph of the intersection of Broadway and Fifth streets, Los Angeles, early 1920s. The view is from a building at the northwest corner so that a two or three block section of Broadway looking south is in view, as are buldings along the east side of that thoroughfare. A small portion of Fifth is in the foreground and at the lower left. Notable features include a Pacific Electric streetcar, heading north on Broadway and ready to cross the interesection. A sign at the top indicates it was the First Street line. Several other trolley cars are further south on Broadway. About a dozen automobiles are on that street or parked along the curbs. A fairly thick throng of pedestrians are on the sidewalks on both sides of the street and there is a newspaper delivery person at the lower right. The building at the left is the Examiner Building and down Broadway is the Pantages Theater. On the back upper right is a pen inscription reading "5th st. and Broadway / looking South / Los Angeles, Cal." At the upper left is a stamp reading "FROM THE / LOS ANGELES / CHAMBER OF COMMERCE." At the lower right is a stamp for the Livingston Co. with their address at 720 S. Broadway. The number "23441" is written in pencil at the center. With some corner creases, slight yellowing on the back, fingerprint stains on the back, and a small tear at the bottom, the overall condition is good. Number-Units: 1
